ACADEMICS

At St. Columbo Public School, M.P. Enclave, Pitampura, we stand for respect towards a learner. Our aim is to impart to our student’s superior education in a safe environment which is conducive for creating academic and co-curricular excellence and empower our students with skills as critical thinking, problem solving, cognitive and somatic abilities to shape them as versatile individuals who are paragons of collaboration and teamwork, creativity and imagination.

All this paves the way forward for our curious knowledgeable, conscientious and empathetic young people. Here the teacher becomes the group co-ordinator initiating work and facilitating them in all aspects. We put special emphasis on holistic development of all children and at every step try to create in them love for knowledge through interesting class and home assignments. Overall, we encourage the students to own their individuality contributing towards national as well as global wellbeing.

ACCREDITATION

St. Columbo Public School, M.P. Enclave, Pitampura is a co-educational English Medium school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the largest educational board in the country and is duly recognized by the Department of Education, Government of NCT Delhi, up to Senior Secondary Education i.e. from Nursery to XII.

CURRICULUM AT GLANCE:

Curriculum - Middle, High & Senior Secondary Level

The school follows the CBSE curriculum in Classes IX to XII. We follow NCERT books in various subjects. In Classes VI-VIII also, the school follows primarily NCERT books and guidelines. HAPPINESS CURRICULUM, as prescribed by CBSE, is diligently followed till class X.

Curriculum - Primary Level

The school focuses and emphasises on following NCERT guidelines and go by their norms while laying a strong foundation of learning, creating positive outlook and skills among the students. Our main focus is on imparting education by 'LEARNING BY DOING' methodology to this age group. The young minds are stimulated and opened to new avenues of learning through opportunities to interact and explore.

PRE SCHOOL & PRE-PRIMARY

Pre-School and Pre-Primary is a tender age of new learnings and discoveries of the world around. This is an onset of journey of academic learning. To develop an affinity towards learning and knowledge, the curriculum is designed to be executed in a fun and interactive way.

The pedagogical processes followed are based on methology so that kids can find their own trajectory of exploring the environment. Children enjoy the freedom to explore, express, create and interact within as well as beyond their environment and gain knowledge. A joyful and secure environment gives the children in our pre-primary classes the freedom to be curious, to wonder and to find answers to their inquisitive minds. Learning in this way transforms them into lifelong learners. We design joyous activities for each domain of learning with care and research-based precision. Even the physical spaces and structures the children interact with everyday are deliberately designed to reflect their learning outcomes.

Children at this stage:

  • Identify and create awareness about self and the surroundings
  • Impart and create ability to understand their own abilities and preferences.
  • Excellence in scholastic, co-scholastic, and life-skills education is at the core of our pedagogy
  • Develop a sense of balance and physical coordination through play way methods.
  • Learn language through activities like role play, storytelling, poetry recitation, singing and reading age appropriate books.
  • Interactive sessions with teachers and circle times are designed in a way so that students can express their thoughts and imaginations without any inhibitions
  • To enhance students' language and communication skills through creative writing and public speaking activities
  • Learning through various audio-visual aids and activities like music, dance rhymes recitation and enacting methods provokes the youngest of our students to explore, experience, investigate and comprehend through play.
  • Learn to live in harmony with their environment, make observations, enquire and ask questions - what, how & why.
  • Demonstrate the ability to begin to assume responsibility for their own safety within their environment through interactive workshops.
  • Learn values, social etiquettes, life skills, build relationships and grow up as confident and responsible citizens.
  • Continuous personal observations and assessments are conducted throughout the year to check the progress and growth of each child.

PRIMARY CLASSES I TO V

Primary classes too focuses on the pedagogy of 'LEARNING BY DOING.' Our prime focus shifts to developing their conceptual clarity by relating learning to everyday life, developing thinking and analytical skills. We try to encourage curiosity, self-expression, aesthetic sensibility in students and channelize their energies towards creating a better learning environment. We keep the pedagogy flexible keeping in mind, different levels of learners and try to provide them ample opportunities to explore and discover and grow into responsible and keen learners.

AREAS OF LEARNING FOR PRIMARY CLASS I-V:

  • Language Development – Acquire the three most important elements of language i.e. listening, speaking, reading & writing and knowing the usage of wide range of vocabulary, develop interpersonal communication skills and express meaningfully. Third Language is introduced in Class VI in order to enable the students to meet the demands of the challenging world and to create their interest to learn more languages. However, a more structured syllabus is followed in the upper primary stage. Students can opt for one of the languages out of Sanskrit/French.
  • Mathematics - Understanding of numbers and their operations, Identifying shapes and patterns, their similarities and differences, Collection and representation of data
  • Environmental Science - Creating awareness of their surroundings, sensitize them regarding environmental issues, inculcate a sense of appreciation for nature and the need of its preservation

Children also get opportunities to express and showcase their talent and skills by participating in various intra-section and inter-section competitions, inter and intra house activities, class assemblies, annual days, celebrations and social awareness campaigns.

The scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), as designed and laid out by the CBSE & NCERT, is followed in the Junior School. Formal test & Exams are introduced in Class II.
